How is double sided tape made?

Double sided tape, or double coated tape, is used to bond or attached two surface or materials together. There many, many types or double sided tapes and each for specific applications.

The cool part about the double side tape is that you do not need heat to adhere the two surfaces, usually a light pressure is enough to make them stick together.

Manufacturers can apply the glue, usually a synthetic rubber resin, in a couple of different ways:

  1. by applying hot air to the primed celphance to evaporate any liquid and leaving behind pure glue only, or
  2. by laminating the glue to the tape by using really high pressure

Whichever way they use, tape is sure to "stick" around in our lives for a while (zinger credit to How It's Made).
