You will have a hard time finding anyone nowadays who does not have a roll or two of tape around the house. But how did this product become so ubiquitous?
1985: Wolffenstein created a paper-based adhesive tape made from gelatin.
1890: Cellulose-based tape was developed and quickly became popular for sealing envelopes and other paper products.
1925: Richard Drew with 3M invented pressure-sensitive tape. This tape was made from a combination of rubber and adhesive.
1930: Scotch tape and masking tape were introduced.
1950s: Duck/Duct made its appearance.
Tape is an indispensable part of everyday life, it is used anywhere from packaging, to insulation, to arts and craft. Next time you reach for a roll of tape, well we hope it is on one of our Peggy shelves, but we also hope you appreciate the incredible product that is tape.
